Organizational Policies 2016-2017
Hours
All service projects are subject to the standard 4 HOUR MAXIMUM credit
Service project may not be credited prior to the completion of the project.
Services performed during summer break (outside of the school calendar year) are credible for service hours, but are limited to 6 total hours.
Half of your required service hours should be completed by the end of the first semester (16 hours)
In-School and Out-of-School Hours
Each returning member is required to a minimum of 32 hours composed of 12 hours of in school and out of school hours and 8 of your choice (16 each semester) to be welcomed back the following year, or to receive cords (for seniors).
New Members/Sophomores: 6 hours of each and 4 hours of your choice (16 hours total) is required by the end of the second semester in order to retain membership for the following year.
In-School hours: anything done for NHS, Interact, Band, Dance, FCCLA, Choir, or other school organizations on a volunteer basis (if a grade or payment is received for the service, there will be no credit given). Be sure to indicate on the Service Hour Sheet the organization with which you served.
Out-of-School hours: individually orchestrated volunteer projects such as mission trips, tutoring, church volunteer work, soup kitchen work, charity runs, etc.
Please turn in completed hours forms to the appropriate hours drawer in Room E-31 or NHS Sponsor's room.
The 32 hours are required for seniors in order to receive cords and stolls for graduation are due by April 5th, 2017.
Grades
Each NHS member is required to turn in a copy of your transcript at the end of each semester. If one fails to do this, or if GPA is below 3.5 minimum the student will be placed on probation.
Hours Forms
Hours forms can be found under ‘Documents’ on the school’s NHS website
Any hours turned in on unofficial paperwork will be subject to a 1 hour reduction from the submitted and granted service hours.
Hours must be turned in within in two weeks of the date the service was performed. "Late" submissions are subject to a half hour reduction or no credit from the granted hours.
Dues
NHS dues include the t-shirt fee and contribute to the organization’s operational costs.
Dues are $20.00
For returning members, dues must be turned in by the end of the afternoon meeting in October.
For new members, dues must be turned in by the end of the afternoon meeting in January.
Dues may only be turned in at NHS meetings or at other NHS events.
See your treasurer or sponsor with any questions or concerns.
Meeting Absences
A maximum of 3 absences for juniors and 2 absences for seniors are allowed before your membership is revoked
2 tardies are equivalent to 1 absence
Members with schedule conflicts that cannot make either of the meetings need to submit documentation (sports schedule, Tech/TCC class schedule, etc.) in order to receive an excused absence for both morning and afternoon meetings (separate documentation for each, if necessary)
This documentation will be filed in the Black Book for your class.
